Although water will not flow for another several weeks, TCU administrators requested that the flutes be complete in time for December graduates to take pictures in front of the fountain.

TCU celebrates topping of the new Brown-Lupton University Union
The TCU community gathered for a “topping ceremony” for the new Brown-Lupton University Union on the lawn of Milton Daniel Hall Monday, Nov. 12. The ceremony was officiated by Chancellor Victor J. Boschini, Jr. and Harold Hebson of Linbeck Construction. Attendees enjoyed free music and a baked potato bar with "toppings" as they watched Linbeck employees place an American flag on top of the spire in honor of Veterans Day. Students had the opportunity to register to win a free meal plan for a semester.
The spire, which tops the estimated $45.7 million facility, weighs 13,000 pounds. The top of its finial sits 146 feet off the ground, which is 785 feet above sea level. This prominent building element will become a landmark for the new Campus Commons. The facility is due for completion in August 2008 and will contain 145,700 square feet. In addition to dining facilities and meeting rooms, the University Union will house the post office, copy center, convenience store, gift shop and a 350-seat theater for performances, lectures and movies.
TCU construction summary
Construction on TCU’s campus continues as two new roads are built, three buildings are renovated, and three new facilities open this spring.
Residence Halls
Two residence halls, Jarvis and Clark Hall were closed at the conclusion of the fall semester for renovations. Clark will be updated and Jarvis will be re-configured as office space. Both are scheduled to be open for the fall semester of 2008.
Students from Jarvis & Clark Halls moved into two new residence halls in the Campus Commons, the Teresa and Luther King Hall and the Mary and Robert Wright Hall, which opened in January. Combined, the halls will house more than 300 students. More than 300 students are currently living in two other new residence halls, the Amon G. Carter Hall and the Kellye Wright Samuelson Hall, also located in the Commons.
New Roads
Two roads will be constructed onto campus from University Drive so that construction vehicles can access Clark & Jarvis halls and the Brown-Lupton Student Center, which has been renamed Scharbauer Hall. The road in front of Clark Hall will be removed and the area will be re-landscaped in July of 2008. The road in front of Jarvis Hall will remain in place through the spring of 2010 to support the renovation of Scharbauer Hall. The road will be removed and the area will be re-landscaped in the summer of 2010.
Brown-Lupton Student Center
Last semester, TCU Trustees approved the demolition of the current Brown-Lupton Student Center. The new building, which will be called Scharbauer Hall, will be rebuilt as academic space and is scheduled to open in the spring of 2010. Construction on this space will begin immediately following spring commencement in May.
